Everyone has a favorite season to dress for. Some love winter because they can throw anything on and hide under a long wool coat. Others love fall because there are endless ways to tastefully layer while still showing some skin. But for me, it’s summer because it’s all about making a statement with the small details—the accessories.
Yes, oversize bug-eye sunglasses and silk scarves will be popular this summer, but nothing will dominate as much as playful yet polished bags. From beach days to at-home BBQs and destination weddings, the right bag will be the finishing touch that ties every warm-weather look together.
This season, there’s an array of styles and silhouettes to choose from, which is good news for some but bad news for others, especially those who get overwhelmed by shopping. For starters, the quintessential summer bag, raffia and straw styles, will be everywhere, with an emphasis on relaxed designs that rest effortlessly on the shoulder or neatly under the arm. Pouch bags will also be the coolest accessory to own in pops of color and unique fabrics like nylon, leather, and sequins. Think Prada‘s Wish Pouch, Celine‘s Crystal Pouch, and Lizzie Fortunato’s Gala Bag.
But that only scratches the surface. Ahead, discover the elegant summer bags that will make you look intentionally dressed without effort, and see how fashion people are already styling them.
