Michael Wignall from The Angel at Hetton in Skipton and Shaun Rankin from Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall have recommended where to go for “budget meals” where they live.
From the ideal place for a sandwich and hot chocolate in the Yorkshire Dales to a “popular” restaurant in a garden centre, the chef’s recommendations have been included as part of Sky News’ Cheap Eats series in the publisher’s Money blog.
Ye Olde Naked Man
Location: 2 Market Place, Settle, BD24 9ED
Tripadvisor rating: 4/5 from 880 reviews
Praising Ye Old Naked Man in Settle, Michael said he always stops off here when he takes his children out on a mountain bike ride in the Yorkshire Dales.
He added: “I’ve always taken the kids there, whether that’s for a hot chocolate and cake or sandwich. It’s so nice, really popular (for good reason), and right in the middle of Settle, a lovely little town.”
Michael continued on the Sky News Money blog: “It’s in a great location, opposite the market square and a traditional, old-school place that I love. The food is very reasonable, and the service is brilliant.”
Paradise Café (Daleside Nurseries)
Location: Killinghall, Harrogate, HG3 2AY
Tripadvisor rating: 4/5 from 30 reviews
Michael said the chef at Paradise Cafe is “lovely” and the pair have known each other a long time.
He explained: “It started as a pop-up at a garden centre, and is now a full-time restaurant.
“They’ve had a really colourful career, a great chef, which is reflected at Paradise.
“They’re hard working and have core values that I really respect, and I just love coming here for a great meal. It is super popular.”
Rind (The Courtyard Dairy)
Location: Crows Nest Barn near Settle, Austwick, North Yorkshire, LA2 8AS
Tripadvisor rating: 4.5/5 from 34 reviews
Michael complimented the team at Rind for being “super passionate” as they extended their cheese shop and built a pizzeria a few years ago.
“It is so good here, very cool and the views are just stunning,” he shared.
“Our restaurant manager is Italian, and even she raves about it. That’s when you know it’s good.
“The toppings are a bit different, and it’s only 15 minutes away so we do visit often.”
Blue Lion
Location: Main Road, East Witton, Leyburn, DL8 4SN
Tripadvisor rating: 4/5 from 524 reviews
Introducing Blue Lion as one of his must-visit places for cheap food in North Yorkshire, Shaun revealed: “My first recommendation is a traditional country pub nestled within a picture-perfect village in the Yorkshire Dales.
“Enjoy a scenic walk through the surrounding countryside before stopping off for lunch – their light lunch menu includes personal favourites such as croque madame with a rocket salad and Black Sheep-battered fish and chips.”
