Huddersfield Town drew 1-1 at MK Dons on Saturday to make it four points from their opening two games in League One this season and goalscorer Joe Taylor is looking at the positives
Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor believes his side’s 1-1 draw at MK Dons will be seen as a “pretty valuable point” as the season progresses.
The Terriers were held at Stadium MK on Saturday in the first away game of their League One campaign, with Taylor’s ninth-minute strike cancelled out by Aaron Collins’ 54th-minute leveller.
Reflecting on the result and his side’s display, Taylor told HTTV: “All in all, I think the immediate emotion is definitely disappointment that we didn’t obviously see the game out, we should’ve been out of sight in the first half, and then we let the game creep up on us a little bit in the second half, but I think later on down the line this will be a pretty valuable point, coming to a really difficult place to go against a really good side.
“I just think we were relentless (in the first half). Every time the ball went long, we won first contacts, we won second contacts, and then we were just settling it. We were just better, we implemented our game plan down to a tee. We just looked a threat. We ran forward, we passed forward, and it’s just something we didn’t really continue in the second half.
“These are an experienced group, they’ve got a lot of good individuals and obviously a really good manager as well, so we expected that at some point in the game, it is what it is. We’re disappointed we didn’t see the game through, but I think there’s a lot to take from that first half that was really positive.”

Taylor was denied a second goal during the first half when his effort from outside the penalty area struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced out, and the forward added: “Obviously it’s a yard over the line, but you can’t always rely on the officials to get those ones right, especially when it’s so far away.”
Following his return from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic, Taylor has started both of the Terriers’ league matches so far this term, and the striker said on being part of Town’s attack once more: “Playing with Fletch (Ashley Fletcher) and playing with Derens (Derensili Sanches Fernandes), it’s really enjoyable.
“Obviously you’ve got the creativity and the one-v-one ability of Derens, and then you’ve got Fletch whose all-round game is just on another level, so a player like me to feed off players like that, essentially we work really well together, and I think that we could be a real big threat looking toward the rest of the season.”
Discussing Taylor’s strike that wasn’t given, Town boss Martin Drury told BBC Radio Leeds: “You can’t do anything, as frustrating as it is. There’ll be ones that we get this season that might not have been ours, and there’s ones that will go against us like today.
“I’m the same as you, when the ball hit the bar and went down, and it spun and came out at the angle that it came out at, anyone that knows football and has seen those types of shots, they’re generally over the line, but I’d not seen it so I had to watch it back afterwards.
“I’ve watched it back afterwards, I’ve seen the still shot, it looks like the goal should stand, but it’s not easy for the officials. They’ve not got goalline technology, so it’s in real time, so they’re not going to get everything right.
“It was a difficult game for them today, so I’m not going to stand here and moan about them, we have to deal with it. We have to put other moments to better use, and be out of sight, for the chances that we created, but I’m still pleased with the moments that we created against a good side.”
