Three years after the series was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Zombies has finally revealed its first trailer and release date. What started as an intense episode in the first season of the Marvel Television Animated series What If…? has now spun off into its own series, and the first trailer has made it clear from the jump—it will be living up to its Zombies name with plenty of gore, action, and high-stakes super-powered mayhem. Featuring an eclectic cast of characters that includes the likes of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and even a version of Blade that is Moon Knight, Marvel Zombies looks truly exceptional.
The trailer (which can be viewed below) is a little under two minutes long and is sure to promote its TV-MA rating immediately. After a virus has turned most of the world, including the Avengers, into zombies, a group of survivors find a way to end the zombie plague, though it involves them traversing the dystopian zombie-filled landscape and fighting their former comrades. The trailer, set to a heavy metal track, is fast-paced and filled with blood and gore that wasn’t even seen in the What If Zombies episode. Heroes are torn apart, and there is plenty of blood and gore to let fans know that this isn’t like the other animated projects that have been released thus far.
There is also a talented voice cast bringing Marvel Zombies to life, featuring a mix of voice actors for the show and veteran MCU actors making the shift from live-action to animation. Most notably, the trailer is narrated by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, who says that all the Avengers are dead. David Harbour also makes his return as the Red Guardian, and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop/Hawkeye. There are plenty of other MCU alumni who will be a part of the series, which can be viewed in its entirety on Disney+ starting September 24.
‘Marvel Zombies’ Looks Like the Goriest Marvel Television Series Yet
Marvel Zombies is set to be four episodes long, with each one directed by Bryan Andrews and the teleplay written by Zeb Wells, a Marvel Comics writer known for his 2022 run on The Amazing Spider-Man, along with having a screenplay credit on Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s unknown if there will be future episodes, though Marvel Zombies has been marketed as a miniseries. With intense, gory action and a myriad of impressive talent providing their voices, this four-episode series has the potential to be a unique and entertaining Marvel Television project.
A standout of the trailer is Blade, who, in this alternate universe, also has the powers of Moon Knight (called Blade Knight in the series). This marks Blade’s first major role in the MCU, following numerous delays to the live-action feature film project that was set to star Mahershala Ali. While Ali’s voice is featured in the post-credits scene of The Eternals, the actor has yet to make another appearance in a film or television project. For the series, Todd Williams will be voicing Blade Knight, and the character is at the center of some of the best action sequences in the trailer.
