A new project is shining a light on stories from the past through the power of performance.
The ’25/5 Project’ sees participants unearth heritage stories from the “rich” archives of Pocklington’s Burnby Hall Gardens, and tell them anew through theatre, music, and craft.
Katharine Stewart, described by a spokesperson as “a key historical figure from Burnby Hall Gardens whose vital contributions have largely been overlooked,” will be one of those to have her story excitingly retold.
A series of live performances and events will cap the project.
The 25/5 Project is being delivered by Thunk-It Theatre CIC in partnership with Pocklington Arts Centre and Burnby Hall Gardens.
Also involved are Wolds Wonders (a group for adults with learning disabilities); a local choir; and Thunk-It Youth Theatre.
A spokesman for Thunk-It Theatre said: “Through this project, we’re not just retelling history – we are celebrating it.
“We’re working with incredible local groups and young people to bring forgotten voices into the spotlight through theatre, music, crafts, and storytelling.”
The project marks a trio of anniversaries: Thunk-It Theatre’s fifth year, Pocklington Arts Centre’s 25th, and Burnby Hall Gardens Heritage Volunteers Group’s tenth.
The project is supported by heritage volunteers across the region.
A spokesperson said: “[The 25/5 Project] offers a shining example of how inclusive arts practice can bring heritage to life, strengthen community bonds, and create lasting change.”
Thunk-It Theatre is inviting crafters and arts groups to join a craft meeting at Pocklington Arts Centre on Saturday, August 2, from 10.30am to 12pm, to find out more about how to get involved in the project.

The “play-in-a-day” sessions will take place at Pocklington Arts Centre and The Old Station Club in Stamford Bridge.
A free activity pack is also available: to download on the Thunk-It website, or to obtain in physical form from Burnby Hall Visitor Centre or Pocklington Arts Centre (subject to availability).
