Bishop Wilton Community Shop and Cafe, located at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, won the Keeping It Local award at the 2025 Rural Community Business Awards, hosted by Plunkett UK.
The award celebrates the shop’s commitment to using nearby businesses and products wherever possible, from coffee beans to bread rolls.

Anna Kemp, shop manager, said: “We are immensely proud to win this award and would like to thank everyone involved with the shop—customers, suppliers, members, and particularly all our amazing volunteers who keep our shop and café running and help it to thrive.”
The shop also stocks cards and postcards from a local artist, eggs from a nearby farm, and flowers grown in the village.
A weekly tray-bake delivery comes from a resident who has since expanded to a larger kitchen, while another villager now supplies bread further afield thanks to the shop’s support.
