The Golden Bachelorette’s Chock Chapple Responds To “Red Flag” Claims After Joan Vassos Engagement

The Golden Bachelorette winner Chock Chapple caused some concern when fans predicted that he wouldn’t propose to Joan Vassos, but, now that they’re engaged, he’s defending himself from the people who said that he wouldn’t make a commitment to her. Joan, a 61-year-old private school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, and Chock, a 60-year-old insurance executive from Wichita, Kansas got engaged at the end of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 after a fairy tale romance that began on their one-on-one date in Disneyland.

Throughout The Golden Bachelorette, Joan and Chock shared a deep connection. Joan was thrilled when Chock came back to her after having to return home for a bit when his mother passed away. They shared a bond because they’d both lost the loves of their lives to cancer. Joan’s husband of 32 years, John, passed away in 2021 due to pancreatic cancer, while Chock’s fiancée of nine years, Kathy, passed away in 2022 due to brain cancer. Before he met Kathy, Chock had been married to and divorced from another woman, Heather, with whom he shares his son and daughter.

During The Golden Bachelorette, some fans were concerned about Chock, and they wondered if he’d be able to commit to Joan because he and Kathy had such a long engagement. In an interview with Us Weekly, when asked about how he knew that he was ready to ask Joan to marry him, Chock responded, “There’s a little bit of backstory on this, and I want to explain this because I did catch some heat on social media for being a guy with no commitments.”

Chock then shared his and his ex-wife Heather’s story, stating, “I had a great marriage for 12 years. This happens to more than 50 percent of the people — it ended. And then I was involved with someone for nine years.” Chock then explained why he had a nine-year engagement to Kathy.

Chock shared, “We both had kids in elementary and high school and she was very adamant about getting the kids out of school before we got married. That was a decision that I supported.” Chock then explained that he wanted to get married. He said, “And the reason why I bring that up is I wanted to get married. … I wanted to show [Joan] how committed I was to her and how much I loved her.”

What Chock Chapple’s Response To His Critics Means

The Golden Bachelorette Didn’t Show Everything

Chock’s backstory proves that The Golden Bachelorette doesn’t always tell the whole story about each contestant. It appears that when the producers edited the show, they decided to tell a story that would leave viewers guessing about whether Chock would propose to Joan or not. However, based on what Chock said, it seems that there was never a doubt in his mind that he’d do it.

Chock’s explanation for why he and Kathy had such a long engagement should’ve been addressed on the show. The fact that it was Kathy’s decision, and not Chock stalling the wedding, is important. Perhaps Chock wouldn’t have had so much backlash about his so-called red flags if his whole story had been told on the show.

Our Take On Chock Chapple’s Defense Of Himself

Chock Chapple Is A Good Man

Although some Golden Bachelorette fans were concerned that Chock was too possessive of Joan and that he might just be lovebombing her, and not actually ready to propose, they were wrong. He and Joan shared an undeniable connection, and it was clear that Chock was the frontrunner to win her heart from the very first one-on-one date. Joan had a taste of what it was like to lose Chock when he had to leave when his mother passed away, and that tragic event really helped them both to reevaluate their relationship and see that they were truly falling in love.

The Golden Bachelor Season 2 Should Be A Two-Bachelor Season

The much-anticipated Golden Bachelor season 2 should feature two of the amazing men from Joan Vassos’ Golden Bachelorette season in the lead roles.

Chock is a good man who seems genuinely committed to Joan. He’s already had two great loves in his life, one of which ended in tragedy, so it’s no wonder that he wants to hold on tight to Joan. Chock and Joan are perfect together, and, hopefully, they’ll live happily ever after.
