A West Yorkshire pub featured among the 50 Top Gastropubs for 2024 has been crowned one of the UK’s top 100, according to new research from the Daily Mail.
Shibden Mill Inn, located in Halifax is only a 22-minute drive from Bradford (according to Google) and was highlighted for its Ham Hock and Wensleydale toastie.
Introducing its list, the Daily Mail shared: “The Great British pub, embedded in our culture for centuries and almost entirely unique to our corner of the world, comes in many guises, from village locals that are the beating heart of rural communities, to Michelin-starred city boozers.
“The ones you can’t forget? They’ll woo you in with a pretty beer garden in summer, and a crackling fire and comfy chair in winter, while serving up local beers and hearty fare.
“A gentle evolution in recent decades has seen families, including four-legged members, now welcomed with open arms. However you may feel about the term ‘gastropub’, dining pubs are becoming a bright spot on Britain’s culinary scene.”
To curate the list, the publisher asked some of the biggest names in the British food and drink industry, including Tom Parker-Bowles, Raymond Blanc, Michel Roux Jr and Prue Leith, to share their favourites.
The list also includes hundreds of reviews and food and drink awards sourced by the Daily Mail, which also consulted pub experts across the country, including Ed Bedington, chair of judges for The Great British Pubs Awards.

What did the Daily Mail say about Shibden Mill Inn?
The publisher wrote: “Originally a corn and spinning mill, the white-painted Shibden Mill Inn, a ten-minute drive from Halifax, became a country pub in 1890.
“Chef Chris Webster’s six-course taster menu costs £70, with a Ham Hock and Wensleydale toastie (£13) just as enticing at the other end of the menu.
“The pub was included in the prestigious 50 Top Gastropubs 2024. There are 11 stylish rooms too, should you wish to bed down.”

Shibden Mill Inn currently has a 4.5/5 rating on Tripadvisor from almost 900 reviews left by customers.
A recent visitor posted: “Delicious Sunday lunch, cooked perfectly. My husband had the roast beef which was extremely tender and I had the pork, again really tasty.
“The deserts were outstanding. The service was faultless, really friendly staff and the surroundings were lovely.”
Another shared: “Lovely food so fresh and well cooked. Very good priced. Really worth travelling for. You will not be disappointed. Staff very helpful and go out of there way. Specials change like soup and pie of day daily. All dishes were out of this world. The truffle gnocchi was very good. My favourite dish I’ve had this year.”
