Fifteen homes were evacuated after a suspicious package was found at a property on Thursday evening.
South Yorkshire Police and the army’s Explosive Ordnance Team were called to a house on Rother View Road in Canklow, Rotherham, at 19:19 BST.
By 00:02 BST residents had been allowed to return to their homes, but a cordon remained in place on Friday morning.
Roads have also been reopened after the scene was made safe.
