Jonathan Morgan has been sacked as head coach of Sheffield United Women after “new information came to light about his conduct” before he joined the club.
Morgan was appointed in February 2023, having been Leicester boss from 2014-2021 and then at Burnley.
His former management agency ended their relationship with him and said in a statement it had “learnt new information regarding Jonathan Morgan and a relationship with a player”.
Luke Turner takes over as interim boss.
United, who are eighth in the Women’s Championship, said in their statement: “Sheffield United can confirm that Head Coach of Sheffield United Women’s team, Jonathan Morgan, has departed the club.
“Due to new information that has come to light within the last few days with regards to Mr Morgan’s conduct before arriving at Bramall Lane, the club has reached the conclusion that Mr Morgan’s position is no longer tenable and his employment with the club has been terminated.”
Tongue Tied Management, who had represented Morgan, added: “The termination of this contract is a critical measure in preserving the integrity of our agency.
“We are absolute in our view that safeguarding standards and processes should apply to all athletes – be they male or female.”
Morgan stood down from his role at the Blades in October after a formal complaint was made over his alleged conduct and behaviour.
Following an investigation into his conduct and behaviour he was cleared to return to work on 2 October.
In December an investigation into the events leading to the death of former United midfielder Maddy Cusack found no evidence of wrongdoing at the club.
Last month, the Football Association launched its own investigation into the circumstances leading up to her death.
It is understood United’s sacking of Morgan is not linked to any Cusack investigation.
Cusack, who had played for the club since 2019, died in September at the age of 27. Police did not treat her death as suspicious.
Cusack, the first player to reach 100 appearances for the Blades, also worked as a marketing executive at the club.
Despite there being no evidence of wrongdoing, the Blades have said they will “consider how processes and policies may be improved”.
